Often children outgrow items that are still in great condition. To avoid sending items to landfill, the community can donate pre-loved (and new) children’s items via:

  • the Fostering Hope shop; or

  • a drop off point near you.

Donations are safety checked and distributed to children, families, carers and remote communities.

Donating Children’s Items

Make a world of difference in your own community. Donating new or pre-loved items helps reduce landfill whilst providing for those in need. For the safety and self-esteem of the children, we can only accept donated items that meet our guidelines

✓ PRE-LOVED Items we can accept

  • Clothing: laundered, in very good /new condition (no rips or stains), appropriate for babies through to older teens (very helpful if sorted by size). Shoes in excellent condition only.

  • Toys: in good, clean, working order—with no missing parts (this can be very upsetting to children who have trouble regulating) - no soft toys please. Books and complete puzzles (ideally in a container or original box)

  • Nursery equipment/Prams/Car Seats: cots, bassinets and clean bedding, in working order, no missing parts or flat tyres. Car seats must be no more than 6 years old and never involved in a car accident of any kind.

  • General Children’s items: small decorative items suited to a child’s bedroom in very good, clean condition.

✓ NEW Items we always need

  • Nappies (up to larger sizes), Formula

  • Underwear, socks and pyjamas

  • Teen clothing and items

✗ Items we cannot take

As we only have need for particular items and limited volunteer resources , please dispose of the following items elsewhere:

  • Damaged items or items with missing parts or flat tyres, brittle or near breaking

  • Adult Clothing

  • Furniture and General Household items: decorations, kitchen appliances, tables, desks etc.

Larger children’s items (children’s beds, drawers, change tables ), can be offered to carers on the Fostering Hope Australia Facebook group.

We strive to give children a sense of pride and belonging.  We never want them to feel less than any other child.  Please consider this when considering whether to donate an item.
